reaching new

Reaching is a series of forms made in clay and other materials, exploring notions of
soulfulness and presence. The reaching forms are grounded in the maker’s interest
in wabi sabi – in imperfection and in subtle, spontaneous aspects of drawing and painting.
Quiet surfaces on individual three-dimensional forms hold certain emotion: these pieces
have their own stories, coming to life in the natural light and in its shadows. Originally
sparked by the artist’s examination of a church window, Reaching articulates aspects
of hope, momentariness and the unenvisaged and unplanned detail found in mental
and physical being.
